The forum is still down after the best part of a day. Worrying. The error message is: SQL ERROR [mysql4] Can’t connect to local MySQL server thru socket ‘/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock’ (111) [2002]. If anyone knows exactly what this means please speak up!
Extra update: There may actually be a problem with our host Web-Mania. Their own website is unable to display site stats and their live support (advertised as open 24 hours, 365 days) is unavailable. I remember sending them a support query by email over a month ago and received nothing other than the initial auto-response “We have received your email blah blah”. They appear to be either ignorant or in trouble.
